In Pakistan around 85% of women face various forms of gender-based violence.
Women and girls are being murdered, kidnapped, raped, killed for honor, have acid thrown on to them.
Every 30 minutes a woman dies to preventable complications of pregnancy and childbirth.
One in every eleven children born in Pakistan dies before his or her fifth birthday.
The statistics are hard. Being a woman in Pakistan is one of the worst countries in the world for a girl to be born.
Since 2009 I’ve been traveling and documenting life of women in Pakistan. This series of images focuses mainly on the hardships women face during childbirth as well as the effects of rape on victims and their families.
Showing you incredible brave, strong women, ‘in praise of shadows’.
